THE STORY OF OBAMA'S BIGGEST VICTORY

Throughout the nation, more people than ever are feeling motivated to become part of the political process. The change is particularly dramatic in Idaho, one of the most conservative states in the nation. Yet Idaho gave Barack Obama the largest margin of victory of the entire 2008 primary season, with nearly 80% of the votes statewide.

On Super Tuesday, 2008, tens of thousands of people throughout Idaho were motivated to attend local Democratic Caucuses. In Boise, the capitol city, a massive throng of people converged on the downtown hockey arena for the largest political caucus of 2008.

The number of people who attended the caucuses quadrupled over four years ago. In fact, more than 1,600 people were not able to get inside the event, and were instead asked to cast votes outside.

"State of Change" is a 23-minute documentary montage that looks at some of the factors motivating that enormous turnout, including a previous visit from Obama, the youth vote, and the overwhelming desire for change. It also includes interviews with some of the caucus-goers who were not able to get inside for the first ballot.

Regardless of your own political beliefs, the historic 2008 Ada County Democratic Caucus is an event that will stick with you for a long, long time.

Meet the Director

Seth Randal is the Writer, Director and Editor of "State of Change."

Randal worked with a crew from Boise-based Wide Eye Productions to capture the intensity and excitement of the Ada County Democratic caucus, the nation's single largest caucus for 2008. The team interviewed 20 voters and political leaders during the course of the evening. Idaho made history that night, giving Barack Obama his largest margin of victory for the entire primary season.

Randal previously directed "The Fall of '55," a feature-length historical documentary profiling a McCarthy-era anti-gay witch hunt. The film is currently used as a teaching tool by such schools as Boise State, Duke, Northwestern, University of Maryland and University of Michigan. The film is represented by Frameline Distribution.

He has been quoted by media ranging from the Associated Press, National Public Radio and KCBS Radio, as well as local newspapers, radio and television in numerous states. He co-authored an opinion piece carried by the Sunday New York Times and other newspapers throughout the nation.

Prior to his experience as a documentary filmmaker, Randal worked as a broadcast journalist for a decade. He has volunteered and voted for both Democrats and Republicans. He also has experience in graphic design, and holds three certifications from Apple as a Mac computer technician.

"State of Change" is Randal's first High Definition film (1080i). He edited it on an iMac G5 using Final Cut Pro. Randal wrote and edited the film during weekends and evenings over the period of several months. The film was produced for a budget of less than $2,000.
